SuzanneGosh, honestly it would seem decluttering is my hobby, my passion, my obsession. My decluttering affects all Iiving areas. I’m so passionate about this hobby that I bring projects out everywhere I go. I don’t put away enough of my decluttering projects back so they do stick out and they get in the way.Well because of my decluttering hobby there’s always a clearing off needed before playing board games, doing yoga, or running around with my dog.Ooh, per week? Well I would say a good hmm, actual hours spent on hobby? Maybe 10-15 but you know how hobbies are. Sometimes there are many many hours spent dreaming about a hobby and planning a hobby. It is really a 7 days a week activity. Like self-employment it’s always present.

MarshSaving/repairing the rare few Family heirlooms/historical treasures I am sole keeper of.A piece here drying, A piece over there drying...Piece by piece then I start on another Family treasure
so even as I clear older clutter I then cover the cleared space as I fix, mend or glue/paint the said treasured items.
Hard to answer this for I find the joy in saving these few priceless items more so than the negativity of clearing out the non solvent $ junk! Now I am doing about 2/3 hours based on repair process...I am learning such patience!

Dee3 embroidery machines, 1 sewing machine, 2 heat presses, 2 cutting machines, 1 laser cutter, all the supplies for them. Fabric, vinyl, yarn, knitting machine, hand embroidery supplies, threadI work on some type of craft everyday after work to decompress, it makes it very hard to clean up if I have a certain project I'm working on that takes more than one session, I leave everything out. When I go into the craft room, I get overwhelmed and sit and stare at stuff for a while before I can get started15 hours

DaniSewingVintage handmade clothes from my granmas and great aunts, that I plan to fix to my size and taste.
Left over fabrics.
The old sewing machine with a table (not the nice wooden ones, but it takes just as much space). It's in my bedroom because it fits nowhere else, but I don't have a confortable space there, nor good lighting.
I don't have room for all the fabrics and clothes I keep, so they are all distributed in different places: a box in the floor, bags in the wardrobe, luggage under the bed, and more luggage next to the night stand.

Also, not having a confortable space for the sewing machine, makes me not sew as often as I plan.

I have such a mess with the vintage clothes that I don't even remember which projects were the ones I was planning on doing.

ChrisFountain pens, ink and stationeryI keep over 500 small ink samples (5 ml small tubes of ink) which I attempt to "file" by color in special trays and containers ... and it is a challenge to find the specific sample I need because of how many I keep. I have a fountain pen You Tube channel so that's why I keep so many (for comparison and review). I have noticed that I can manage 350 samples pretty well but more than that and my containers and my brain just can't keep them organized well enough to find one easily. I've come to realize that some must GO. I did purge any that were too old or dried up ... no longer useful. Now I'm working at making choices within each color family and setting limits of 25 per color sub group. When I exceeded my trays and containers, I resorted to Gallon baggies which is awful because they are just jumbled in there ... it's too much. It's probably my "fear of not finding a specific ink" or having to "repurchase" a sample that keeps me holding on to too many. The biggest cost to me is TIME. It takes a lot more time for me to locate a specific ink sample for comparison for a video or to use the sample in my writing. It can also reduce the enjoyment of the hobby for me because if it's too big of a chore to manage the samples I often avoid those and they continue to drain my energy because I KNOW that I need to deal with the problem. I can spend more time locating samples than actually writing or creating content.10 hours or so a week ... granted this is connected to content making which also earns me some ad revenue.
EveRecycling denim and paper craftFinding a home for it so I can put it away at end of task.No room to start a project as I find it difficult to settle with a home /area to store away previousl projects usefully3-4
SarahArt suppliesMainly it is contained to one bin, but the different materials frequently get mix up when my daughter pulls things out for use and doesn't put them away properly. When things aren't put away properly it ruins both what is left out and decreases the chance of accessing what is in the jumbled mess of supplies.0

Anonymous usercollageMagazines and loose pictures for collage take up boxes and boxes or are "lost" among other papers.Never have the space to actually do collage.zero
Anonymous userCard makingRidiculous amounts of paper and multiple bins of stamps, in addition to glue and stamping tools.I have so many supplies that I tend to have many of them in the living room, where I craft—instead of them all being contained to the spare bedroom. Then when I want to clean up the living room, I have to move the extra supplies elsewhere and in the end they’re all over the house and I can barely find anything when I need it.

Also, with so many choices it’s sometimes hard to focus and just get a card completed.

Sara JaePaper craftsI have about 2.5 square feet of raw materials to make greeting cards, bookmarks, origami, small artworks on paper, including paints & glitter glues. Need to find accessible, usable storage solution. The paper craft materials are in haphazard piles which are not currently attractive compared to the rest of my recently decluttered dining/living room.
Honestly, I'm so negatively impacted that the thought of passing all of it on to a younger arts & crafter has crossed my mind this summer. I have not made anything this summer except for ball point pen sketches.

RobertaJigsaw puzzles and fabricBoth the collection of fabrics and puzzles take up quite a bit of space; I gave three or four fifty-five gallon bags plus several kitchen size trash bags of fabrics away and at least a dozen puzzles away.I don't have trouble doing the puzzles. If I need to use the same space, I have two foam boards I can sandwich the puzzle in, on the felt I work the puzzles on. I clamp it shut with large binder clips. It can be slid under a couch or stood against a wall.I do puzzles off and on, but when I have one on the table, I work it while I eat and during the evenings.
MarilynArt...mixed mediaI am still honing my art area, so I have many supplies and reading material on multiple areas of art, and I need to narrow this down and get rid of what I have not selected.I have too many supplies, and I have trouble finding what I need for projects.I usually don't do anything since I can't find my needed supplies, so it affects my projects.
JeanBooks! Finally starting to thin the collection!Looking at the books reminds me how long ago I read them!5 minutes!
Cat present making toys out of recycled materials, mostly cloth.I have several started items, waiting for "parts" in different baskets, a few on surfaces near PC and TV to work on as I watch films or the like. I started this habit to keep me from munching/snacking.Not aware of negative impacts, unless we expect company/visitors.between 7 and 14 hours.
KathleenMixed media artToo many supplies in a small space.I cannot create surrounded by clutter. Clutter makes me anxious.Less than I did. I have a creative block and looking at the chaos doesn’t help.
KelleyCard making and scrapbookingThe volume of supplies takes up the most space--12x12 paper, 8.5x11 paper, stickers, embellishments--along with the stamps for cardmaking. If my work surface isn't clear to start, I find it more difficult to work. The lack of organization or labeling of the supplies (for example paper or stamps not sorted by theme) makes it take longer to find what I'm looking for and that can stifle the creative spirit. Having too much can do the same thing--not knowing what you have or what to choose can cause decision paralysis.Typically an hour or more a day during the week and longer in the weekend. So, 8+ a week, on average
DawnScrapbookingThere are SO MANY parts to it: decorative papers, photos, embellishments (this includes my cutting words or pictures out of magazines or mail--I use everything I can!), tools (various scissors, punches, trimmers). In addition, I have a plastic crate underneath my desk with the 14 x 14 clear envelopes to house the beginnings of "spreads" (that's what I call the two face-to-face pages I'm doing) I'm working on as well as some for materials such as the remnants of pages used which are organized by color or various paper embellishments (alphabet letters, flowers, words, seasons/holidays. I have part of two closets giving space to all of this. Idealistically, I want to create an inventory as an aid to knowing where everything is because I have so much. The worst thing is sto start on a spread, no i have a particular item, and not know where it is. I use giving envelopes for small pieces of particular spreads (obviously I label the envelope of what needs to go in there and then check it off as it's supplied.I think I already stated it in the previous answer: When I'm working on it and I know I have a particular item, but I can't remember where it is or I look for it and can't find it.

As a P.S. However many years before moving, I promised myself that I would organize it all before getting too heavily involved because the above scenario is so frustrating. I've made great progress. It makes the doing of it (scrapbooking) so much more enjoyable and peaceful...the way it's supposed to be.

Sort of a funny thing...When my husband sees me jumping up and down (i do the scrapbooking in the living room) my husband tells me to relax. The thing I tell him which he still hasn't gotten after nearly 15 years is, "I am relaxing; doing this is relaxing to me."
Not able to get to it on a weekly basis since I have a lot of irons in the fire. I'm working on other creative projects.
Anonymous userknittingAlthough my yarns and tools are well organized, they take up a lot of space in my appartmemt.I have a huge stash of high-quality yarn that is enough to keep me busy for the coming 8 -10 years. I therefore imposed a moratorium on buying new yarn - which cuts out the joy of buying new yarn (sigh!).
A lot of unfinished projects. Procrastinating on finishing projects keeps me from enjoying some beautiful clothing that I could wear if I'd just finish these projects.
I knit sporadically, but if I do so, I might easily spend 10 -15 hours a week knitting.
SMGenealogyThe endless endless stacks of printed original family source books, family Bibles, and folders containing information for 14 family trees. I also have family photos and tintypes, plus a coffin plate.I make a note after each work session saying where I left off and what to do next. But I just can’t get enough time to do the scanning and sorting that needs to be done. I’m giving away what I’m done scanning and entering into my genealogy program, so the stacks aren’t getting larger. At least 4 hours a week
Anonymous userSewingI have several textile hobbys, which include spinning and knitting ( wool sweaters) and sewing both clothes and quilting). I have scaled down for years now, sold, recycled, donated and packed the best stuff in project boxes but it is still too much (too many boxes, which clog up the bedrooms). I know exactly what i want to make but it will still take me 10 years to actually make it. The full rooms hurt but so does donating more because it is all good stuff that is leftI get overwhelmed because i know how much time it will take to make it all10 -15 hours
EvelinPaintingmy paintings are very small and I always work on a few on a time. sometimes they have to dry before I can continue working on them. so there´s small paintings on the windowsill, on my desk and painting supplies like paint, brushes, pens everywhere including my desk between bills, papers and textbooks.whatever I want to use my desk for, there´s always something in the way and I have to tidy up before I can even startprobably about 3 hours

Anonymous userSewing, painting, sculpture making - they are also my livelyhood, partner works with event planning and technology development so we have a lot of tech and setups, we used to have a cycling business so have a lot of bikes and mechanics related to that. It's a lot.We spend a lot on storage of our old business supplies it's won't be financially responsible to keep paying for storage.
We also do events related to our jobs but when those events are over we don't know what to do with the equipment because we might need it for the next job. But each job is custom so we don't know for sure what we'll need in the future. It seems like everything is handy to have and keep. The storage room is packed and now overflowing into the living room. We're trying to sell off things that feel obsolete to us.
There's so much that my old system overflowed and is now mixed and unorganized. It's hard to find things I need. When new updated things come in its difficult to get rid of the old gear.40 hours+
Elizabeth M.SewingSeveral sewing machines, fabric, sewing patterns, accessories and notions. Essentially an entire closet in my house is full of sewing supplies. The accumulation has demotivated me from actually making anything because I will need to search for *exactly* what I need or have too many selections snd can’t decide.

AnnaDressmakingI see lovely fabric and plan what to make of it in a much higher rate than I finnish the garments. Sometimes the thought about how much fabric I already own makes me refrain from buying more, sometimes I come up with all sorts of so called reasonable reasons to buy it anyway. The feeling of being overwhelmed makes it a bit more of a challenge to actually choose what new project to start. This is such a luxurious problem, so it's not really a problem, I feel ashamed to admit it.2-4 hours
JulieFrames, frames, & more frames, material, pillow forms, stuffing, matboards, canvases, yarn, products: glues, gesso, spray cans, paint brushesFrames take up space and some have glass. How to store safety and accessable? It's hard to tell what frame sizes I have.5 hours

Anonymous userhappy planner/journaling, essential oils, DIY body care, homeopathic medicine, dehydratingthese each created an entire new category and I didn't know how to organize them well. Journaling supplies are a little more under control, but how to keep up with all the homeopathic medications (mostly in little tubes) is a challenge, as well as all the essential oils and DIY body care supplies.I don't know what I have and I currently have misplaced some "essential" tools and a couple of essential oils for my essential oil use and it's making me crazy.journaling one hour per day; others one hour per week
Anonymous userKnitting, crochet, and cross stitch.Even though I culled and donated (Texas Art Asylum FTW!) a lot of my yarn stash earlier this year, I still have way more than I can use in my lifetime. I need to make a bit more room to organize the cross stitch supplies and charts better. It's hard to find things, hard to remember what I already have.Almost none n the knitting and crocheting these days b/c I'm obsessed with the cross stitch. Maybe an hour or two to knit or crochet, double that for x-stitch.
Anonymous userListening to music and/or the radioI had two separate electronic devices. Anonymous userQuiling (+some sewing)Volume of FABRIC collected over the last 35-40 years. Bought more than I could use. NOW, I will need to live to 217 years of age to use it all up. (Even tho' I have been donating it away & away & away.for the last 3-4 years.)Too much to use. Too much to choose from. Tripping over the many storage bins still full of fabric.1 hour, if you take all year's worth & divide it by 52.
Lynnpainting artsSeveral floor to ceiling stacks of bins full of tubes, bottles and jugs of paints, along with racks of unused canvases of various sizes in a room I set up for my hobbies. Not enough room for very many finished paintings to dry safely makes the effort to set up and clean up not worth it for a session of so few paintings. Not enough room for drying paintings depletes the desire to start a paint session.a day or two per month

JeanneOnly outdoors gardening. I only have a few indoor bulbs duing holidays.. I once was a fiber artist with spinning wheels, fibers, threads, fabrics and frames. All sold now. I also made decorative cake, all equipment was donated to the high school where I workedI keep my surfaces bare but artist son has a paint studio he keeps in fair order with work tables and working artist suppliesI just have a little garden shed where supplies and tools are kept. I clear out weekly since very small and mower must be stored there.During the growing season, every day.
GrannyKids‘ crafts, sewing machines & suppliesKids‘ stuff has taken over the family room after my kids left extra toys and craft supplies with me when they moved. They first moved in for a while and then left the country 😀Can’t do any sewing because everything is disorganized - can’t find what I need. My granddaughter would love to sew and I have much more space than she does, but it’s not easy.None
GlennaArt suppliesLarge volume of paper collage supplies such as old books and magazines to cut up, pages of pictures already torn from books and magazines, and pictures that are actually cut out and ready for use in collage.
A large portion are stuck in unmarked folders.this means they’re not easily accessible/findable by categories.
Also have boxes of what collagers call “ephemera” and can include old documents, correspondence, very old photos, maps, pamphlets, postcards, and so forth.
I’m currently not doing any collage or artwork because the space is not conducive to working in. This negatively effects my life by hindering me from having the joy of creating. It also prevents me from having friends come over to play and enjoy art time too. That about sums it up.Little to none.
JettaCross stitchingThe only clutter associated with my cross stitching is when I'm working on a project and leave it on the end table beside my recliner until it's completed. It doesn't affect my enjoyment. I just don't like seeing it laying out.I'm not always working on a project and most are quick turn-around times. When I do have an ongoing project it takes maybe 4-6 hours to complete and I usually do it in a week's time.
LelaGardeningThe shed is full of tools, potting, soil, etc. Then there are piles of dirty clothes in the laundry room from working on hot days and having to come inside and change. If I don’t clean frequently in the summer, I track grass and dirt through the house from the laundry room. Then I don’t want to go out and work in the garden because I don’t want to have to clean up the house again or take a shower for the 10th time. Lol Summertime is very hot and humid in Arkansas.Normally, Several hours
DianaSewingI have the fabric more or less under control but the tools are still many and scattered. I rounded up all my different kinds of scissors and put them in an easy to view bin. My electric cutting dies are all over. Don’t know if I will ever use them again. And the complex and many assorted rulers for marking and cutting. I honestly don’t know if I will ever use any if this stuff again.Right now I think all this stuff is making my craft space feel sloppy and disorganized. And I would like to start on a new and different craft but my space already feels full.Right now, none
KarenHorse figurine collectionI have numerous totes full of horse figurines that I can’t display because my cat will knock them over and break their legs. And there are a lot of figurines.I no longer want to store anything and I can’t add to the collection as they would just be stored. The totes take up a lot of valuable real estate.None it’s a storage issue

ElaineEssential oils/DIYI need an efficient way to organize the bottles of oils, recipe books, magazines, recipe cards, and carrier oils/miscellaneous materials. Currently I can’t easily see my items.I’m too compact in boxes. I sometimes order materials that I find I already have after the order is placed. Wasting money. Not every week. Would do more if better organized.
LisaCrochetingI have a TV stand full of yarn, a large sofa ottoman full of yarn, a pile of yarn on my sofa, a large plastic bin of yarn, a storage self of yarn and a big pile of bags of yarn on the floor in the corner. So, I guess my answer is that yarn takes up the most space so it's my problem area. I have thousands of ideas of things I want to make. The space I crochet in is a second living room of sorts in my tiny house. When the space is clear my kids and I sit there to talk, watch TV, etc. As it is now there is no room to stretch out on the sofa and relax and visit.Easily 40 hours a week.
Celinadolls, already made doll clothes, shoes and wigs, fabric for doll clothes and other supplies (beads, lace, ribbon) for... you guessed it... dolls. Takes up literally 40% of my belongings.boxes with the supplies and all the fabric. The upply of fabric wiould never end, but I bought too much of it for the fear of fabric apocalypse and now I have to use it up. I've given awy a lot, but what I've left is really to be used. So now I promised myself not to visit the fabric shop anymore.I feel like if I don't use it up, it'll be wasted. But it takes away the fun of being super spontaneous. I mean, I need a plan and being consecutive about it so as to use up the fabric before my love for the hobby dies 🙂2-5 hours on average. Sometimes going weeks without it, then a whole weekend stuck to my sewing machine.
CaronceramicsClay in various stages: ready to use, drying scraps, slaking buckets, needs wedging.

And pretty equally, work in various stages: needs final work (glazing, sanding etc) waiting to be photographed and priced and packed for storage until next sale.

LaurieHome remodeling projectsMy husband and I do home remodeling projects together on our home. I guess the worst part of the project is when we are finished and have to deal with the extra materials. All the tools have a place to go, but all the extra materials need a home. I recently suggested to my husband that as soon as we are done with the project, extra materials need to be returned (if possible), donated or trashed, not stored. He agreed. We both find it hard to throw perfectly good materials away thinking maybe we might have to do a repair in the years to come on the recently finished project or maybe we could use the materials for another project. We both were raised with a scarcity mindset; our parents were born in the Depression Era.Recently, I've thought that I don't want to do any more home remodeling projects because I don't want to deal with the extra materials afterwards. By extra materials I mean like a piece of board that we cut and used part of the piece but have a partial piece that COULD be used for somethings else, the five extra tiles that we didn't need for our project, the short length of guttering that was the remains of the larger piece that we did use. Things that aren't good enough to donate but too good to throw in the trash. The last remodeling project my husband and I did lasted from Sept 2022-April 2023. We couldn't work on it every day as we had other things we had to take care of. Maybe 25 hours a week?
LenneePainting, basket making, collage workI have more than 150 unsold paintings stored in a small bedroom.I have stopped painting. No more room.I have switched to drawings, painting small watercolours, clay work, knitting and writing. Being newly retired, I spend 35 to 40 hours a week on these activities.
Barbaraknittingbins of knitting wool occupying my living room, no free space on the floor, the example phrase was quite fittingit puts pressure on me to knit faster, but the nature of knitting allows me to knit, because the activity of knitting takes up no space, which us why it took over, while blocking other creative expressions, like sewing, which I cannot do anymore15 hours minimum probably closer to 25-30
Mary Weaverpouring acrylic paint artI have a room full of tubes of paint, canvasses, various tools and finished or partly finished pieces. I have pieces of our art on the walls, in bins, on boxes, and lying on shelves. Too much art to justify doing more! The room is so full of paraphernalia that if I wanted to do more, I would have to take 30 minutes to move stuff out of the way in order to mix and pour the paint, then another space to let it dry.now a days, none because I can't find the energy to take those steps. and then I don't know how many paintings my friends want from me after 4 years of gifts...
JaneDog training supplies - When set up, it's like a doggie playground in my house. Some things are very large. Thankfully, I am conscious of this when making purchases. I also tend to fall prey to what other dog enthusiasts say is the next great training tool or resource. I'm doing better at asking myself if I have anything similar I could use for the training the same skill.Gratefully, my training tools fit in a corner behind the sofa. I need to be careful to not buy more and let it overflow.Between 5 and 10 hours a week.
