I want a good list of places to donate in Colorado.

2024: last year I donated monthly household and clothing items. This year I’m concentrating on lowering paper accumulation. I am age 74, retired accountant.

I am successful in 2023 for downsizing clothing, household items, garage items for 11 months. December is tax prep and clearing out the 4-drawer file cabinet. I am a retired accountant, age 74.

It takes discipline for reducing items and I setup my pickup date ‘before’ I start the downsizing tasks. I pack things in boxes for the date. The service likes my neatness and ease for them to move boxes.

I have one bedroom almost completed. By March 2024, this will be finished.

I agree about not buying more containers to store items. Instead, get rid of items!

Holiday presents: I give restaurant gift cards now or grocery store cards. I ask to not receive gifts but to give the sane ir even cards from Walgreens for meds or cash.

I don’t want anymore things here. Just remember: it all goes to the landfill anyway.

Keeping this statement in mind, I don’t shop like I did. Times have changed. Interests have changed as a Senior.

Happy Holidays!
1) Schedule monthly in 2024 a pickup date for donations. These are my commitment dates.
2) Work one room until completion to eliminate items not used/not needed.
3) Reduce credit card debt by not spending on things I don’t need.
4) Use up all greeting cards and don’t purchase any new ones.
5) Locate more charities/places who take item donations.
6) Use up all cleaning supplies I haven’t been using or donate to a neighbor.
7) Use up all toiletries or donate to someone in need, such as Homeless shelters needing these type items.
8) Be Thankful daily I have had the funds to buy these items who can use them now. This is a blessing to others during tough times. I’m very happy about this part of decluttering. It is a surprise reward!

Happy Holidays! Keep going!

I'd like to get a different job that does not imply sitting all day on the computer, and is less stressfull.

And clutter related, do something about my clothes... too much clothes don't fit me because I gained weight in the last 2 years, out of that stressfull and sedentary job.
But I don't want to buy new clothes having a full closet, and I don't want to get used to this new weight.

I guess I do new year resolutions then! 😀

And I guess it's hard when things are interconnected, and you have to fix one to fix the other, but you cannot fix the first one because something else..

Instead of resolutions - each year I set goals across the various areas of my life. I create action steps and work on those throughout the year. 2023 turned out to be a dumpster fire of a year - with illness and deaths in my immediate family.
For 2024 - I want to make some real progress on these goals. ▪️My Health. Lose more weight. Improve strength and balance. Get my numbers back in normal range. ▪️Support Husband with his Health.▪️Family Time. More time with family. ▪️Home. Get repairs & maintenance done. Make another Declutter round through the house. Deal with my parents’ belongings. Declutter garage storage. ▪️Finance. Review and trim fat. ▪️Photos. Declutter & Organize my photos. ▪️Hobbies. Make more time for crafting.
▪️Create a plan with action steps. Each month - I’ll choose actions to complete. Break those actions down into weekly tasks. Monitor my progress.
▪️Some actions will mean creating habits. I have a new Habit Tracker to hang on the kitchen to serve as a reminder.
▪️I will post for accountability in a FB group where we work on monthly goals.
I’ll be at home with my husband - and we may be asleep or watching TV.

I would like to feel more in control of my life; to feel calm, organized, and serene in my environment; and to get chores and obligations well enough under control that I can take some time to do some things I enjoy.Much of the chaos and stress I experience is because of the disarray in which I live, so I plan to continue cleaning, organizing, and decluttering, hoping that the practice of doing so will make the job easier and easier. One lofty goal would be to repurpose my dead spouse's office and empty his storage locker, but the locker is part of a log jam, holding items nicer than what is in my home, packed in such a way that I can't access them without the help of strong people. I guess I should think of learning how to ask for help.

Maybe what I need for 2024 is a vision. A purpose for my life other than just surviving could serve to give me a reason to declutter.
If like other years, I will be alone; standing on the balcony or at the window looking at the stars; thanking God for what I have; and telling my dead spouse, family members, and friends that I miss them and still love them even though they are gone. When I hear distant fireworks, I will cry "Happy New Year" into the darkness, and then go to bed. If I am especially tired, I will just go to bed early, telling myself that it is more important to start they year with a good night's sleep than to greet the new year, and mumble "Happy New Year" if fireworks rouse me at midnight.

I'm tired of living in chaos. It should be a place of sanctuary and peace; but it isn't. I get so flustered when I can't find things; or, God forbid not able to have people over. This year, I am embarking on a "no buy journey" and looking at the decluttering journey through a different lens. Firstly, I am going to make due with what I have. I'm pretty darn creative so that should not be a problem. Lastly, with regard to looking at the decluttering process through a different lens maybe it is better to say; in a different way. To that end, this coming year is going to be a journey towards peace and love. Rather than decluttering; I am going on a journey of self-love and peace, one in which I can create a safe and nurturing environment!!Looks like a got a little ahead in my previous answer. I'm definitely not buying anything at all -- other than groceries of course. Everything that I do have in my home, garage and shed will be assessed through the lens of "will it help me create the loving, safe and nurturing environment". If not, I will let it go. I'm sure that it will be a blessing to someone else. I am no longer concerned about the finding the perfect place for it. That is a muscle I have strengthened recently so I am good in that regard.Honestly, I will be asleep. LOL

I want to make a very large dent in my biggest project, which is digitizing my family papers and photos. That's holding me up from getting on to the next project, which is finishing my family history book. There are some areas of the house that need organizing and my husband and I are mulling over what to do about them - they don't impact us on a daily basis, they're just unsightly. Every time I think about my big project I get a knot in my stomach, so I tend to avoid and get on with other things - doesn't help!!!! I have put alerts in my calendar, but they don't help either - they've been there for a few years now!!!! PLEASE help me make next year differentI have made a plan about the order of elements needing completion. I guess the next step would be to estimate the time it would take? Perhaps it won't take as long as I think. This past year I went through 99% of my photos with my husband's help and have gone through 70% of the family papers on my own. I have organized the papers in boxes by last name. I organized the photos, but need to do that again. I have a scanner for the photos and a very good scanning app on my phone for the papers. - still get that knot in my stomach thinking about it...I will be with my husband and some of my children and grandchildren.

I would like to devote more time to nurturing my relationships with friends and family in 2024. I would also like to work on improving my consistency in working toward goals in 2024.Each month, I plan to make a short list of friends or family that I'd like to connect with either in person or by phone. I plan to arrange coffee or lunch dates with those who live locally and call those who are out of town. The goal being to nurture these relationships with more intentional and consistent efforts.

I plan to continue to improve my consistency by writing down and scheduling tasks and then honoring that schedule! I also intend to discern why my consistency often falters and take action to deal with it.

The visions:

I am prioritizing my health and most important relationships in the ways I spend my time and energy.

My family photos - digital, print and archival - are more “under control” and shared - meaning I have made great progress in thinning the herd and sharing the Best of the Best with family. I can feel the difference in having more storage space & shelf space in my home, and feel peace in slimming & filing the digital & archival photos that someone will inherit.
Health: try new ways of moving / stretching until I find one I want to sustain.

Photos:
1. Go through the albums inherited from my parents. Digitize & save prints of only the best. Share the digital versions with close family. Throw away the binders. Celebrate one shelf freed for other use.

2. Begin a similar process with archival print photos.
Sharing the evening with my son’s family who will be visiting that week. Chances are we’ll be asleep at midnight. Their young children wear us out! 😉

Early this year I got serious about getting healthy and started a low carb, no processed food diet and have stuck to it. Over four stone lost and I am moving more as part of the health plan. So I would like next year to be a continuation of that, just sticking to the health plan. Moving more has meant gardening and yard clearing my large yard - what a difference that has made. Even neighbours have commented. Next year that yard clearing will continue into the sheds.I plan to stay more active for health reasons, and that means continually keeping an eye out for small projects in the yard, weeding a small area, cutting an overhanging branch, tossing out old garden ornaments immediately they are seen etc. All of those small things done each day add up to big improvements. I didn't lose that 4 stone all at once, it was one pound at a time and keeping going. Enjoy the doing, step by step.Every year for decades I've hit my large outdoor gong 3 times at midnight then walked around and through the house ringing Tibetan bells. It just feels good.

Set aside 90 minutes 2x week w accountability partner to concentrate on tasks. Most likely looking at fireworks from a roof top terrace or friend 's balcony. (Drinking sparkling wine.) Or at a bridge overlooking the river that flows through our city.

I would like to dispense with verbal clutter to some degreeI want to listen more and speak less. I’ll try and really hear others and give people time to develop their thoughts. I tend to jump in, talk about myself or looking for a funny line, while planning what I will say next. It’s not good and it clutters the airwaves. So, in 2024, better conversations, fewer cluttering ‘sound bites’Home, probably asleep, under the fan, and wearing an eye mask cos the blooming sun is up at 4:30am in our part of the world.

Complete “moving in” process that began in 2020.
More health focused physical activity to improve stamina.
Plan for emptying remaining boxes in various areas by building it into my weekly planner.Away on a mini vacation with my husband. No specific plans for the midnight event.

I would like to bring my environment into the 2020s, or at least into this millennium.
I would like for clutter not to have a starring role in deciding yes or no to activities or opportunities.
Haha, I didn’t expect this question, much like I didn’t expect my previous answer. Painting the walls and/or changing the flooring would go very far in my vision. I plan to start painting in 2024.Depending on the weather, I will be with extended family at another location or getting comfy and warm at home, watching a movie or fast asleep when any midnight bells are ringing.

Must "nudge" contractor to come do a main floor bathroom. That will allow us to stay in our home. We've been on the list for 2 years. I'm done being patient. Besides, I clean out the laundry room & closets to prepare, and all that good de-cluttering is going to waste. LOLWrite down a list of phone #'s & start calling the Monday after Thanksgiving. This is deer hunting territory, & they wouldn't be available until then.
Then, I
llbe a little ruthless, saying "You can't get it done this winter? Then, I'll call other contractors, to perhaps find somebody sooner."
Sleep, even tho' it's the 49th anniversary of our first date!

Most of my rooms are visibly fine but I run hot and cold on decluttering hidden spaces. In most rooms there’s no visible clutter but oh my what’s left to do in my drawers and cupboards! I need to be more consistent and just start with one drawer. I know I feel calmer in a peaceful room but as the visible portions of my rooms are fine I don’t have the motivation to work on my drawers and cupboards. Help!Take a hint from Santa and make a list and check it (off) twice so I’ll be nice not naughty.Probably in my bed where I am every New Year’s Eve! I’ve never been one for going out on a holiday. Too many crazies and drunks out there. The new year will be there when, God willing, I awake in the morning.

I'm still settling in from a relatively recent move to a new location. Next year I'd like to be more involved with community and have a wider circle of friends.I've been thinking about joining a hiking group. It's time to contact a couple to find the best fit.I'm more interested in the Rose Parade in the morning than in celebrating at midnight so hopefully I'll be asleep.

More consistent exercise and healthy eating.
Manage my calendar better--don't schedule so much to where it'll overwhelm me.
Clear out the stash of pictures under my printer stand.
Remember that I can put my health before wants of others.
Slow down before scheduling and ask myself some questions to determine if I really want/need to do something.
Just take out the pictures and do SOMETHING!
In bed asleep!

I have financial and decluttering goals that align. In addition to continuing my decluttering practice of one in two out (resulting in more conscious shopping practices), I also plan to continue decluttering the garage with a goal of hitting every area at least once in 2024 (one full layer of the onion peeled). The one in two practice will be continuous and I've already put some 2024 dates on my calendar for working on the garage.decluttering effort. .Sleeping, I hope. 🙂

I have decluttered a lot of my house already. My next goals are:
- Declutter and reorganize our garage.
- Same for our indoor tools room.
- Figure out what I want to do with my spacious craft room.
Pick a section to work on and start. Thinking of a whole space like the garage is overwhelming.Home. Asleep. 🙂
