The Clutter Fairy Weekly #306
While You Declutter, Don’t Forget to Leave Space for Yourself
Decluttering is more than just emptying closets and throwing things away. Mindfully clearing clutter and organizing our possessions can be a valuable form of self-care that creates space for peace and growth in our lives. In episode #306 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, explores how mindful decluttering and organizing can help us release negative feelings and brighten our emotional landscape.

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.
A Fresh Look
This week’s assignment is to take a fresh look at a space in your home through the lens of your own emotional needs.
- Think about a room or area of your home that’s not supporting you in the way you’d like for it to—as a place of peace, relaxation, purpose, etc.
- Set an intention or two about your use of this space. Write down a few notes about what you do here or how you’d like to feel. Would you like for this space to help you relax, recuperate, recharge, or something else?
- Remove an item from this space that isn’t aligned with the intention(s) you set. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- An item of aspirational clutter—something you bought for a hypothetical version of yourself that hasn’t come about.
- An item of identity clutter—something you kept as a memento or museum piece from a previous version of yourself.
- An item of someone else’s stuff.
- Anything else that doesn’t serve the life you want to be living now.
