Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Stubby To-do List

This week’s assignment is to experiment with a “stubby to-do list,” one of the productivity ideas suggested in ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life.

  • Sit down with a writing instrument and a blank sheet of paper to write on.
  • Set a timer for five minutes.
  • Conduct a “brain dump.” Write down everything you need to do or are worried about right now. This might include work tasks, errands, chores, appointments, calls you need to make, etc. Make the entries as brief and concise as possible, and keep writing until the timer goes off.
  • Now take a brightly colored card or piece of paper to serve as your stubby to-do list. Select no more than five items from your brain dump and transfer them to the stubby list. These will be your focus for today. Write the items on your stubby list in big, bold print.
  • At the end of the day or on the following morning, transfer any incomplete items to tomorrow’s stubby to-do list.
  • Try this experiment for a few days.
  • Set the goal of shortening your list until it’s realistic to complete it on most days.
