Are We Ever Finished Decluttering? Organizing With No End in Sight

People who struggle with clutter sometimes get discouraged by how far away and out of reach our goals seem to be. We ask ourselves, “Will I ever finish?” In episode #183 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, ponders the question of whether we’re ever really finished decluttering and offers tips for setting organizing goals that keep you engaged and motivated.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Pumpkin Spice Season

It’s autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, so this week’s assignment is to work on the shift from summer to fall, if you haven’t already done so. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Handle a project that you avoided during the summer swelter—for example, decluttering and cleaning an outdoor space, such as a patio, deck, garage, or storage shed.
  • Evaluate summer clothing and accessories. If you didn’t wear or use something this year, consider sending if off for donation, then put away anything that you won’t need again until next year.
  • Inventory, purge, and refresh your pantry and spice cabinet in preparation for the coming “cooking season.”
  • If you started your kids’ new school year in a panic, take a moment now to establish some order. Designate drop zones for backpacks, schoolbooks, and important papers that come home from school.
  • Now is also a great time to review and refresh the contents of younger kids’ closets to clear out anything they’ve outgrown and free up space for new clothes.

Yes to Pumpkin Bisque Soup, Pumpkin Ice Cream and mix for Pumpkin-Ginger cookies! = Check!
Now a story for you all – I was challenged by Owners to get my lot cleared up. Only able to work evenings or early mornings due to heat fatigue. Then my neighbors stepped up – coming by after their work/dinner. I was so moved and realized this is what we in CF promote. Helpful Inspiration to get it done even if just volunteering. My neighbors have witnessed my seeking to clear my clutter all summer long and just wanted to help me in small ways. HUGE burden off my shoulders all and my lot, carport, storage, porches look beautiful with every item in its place. Now bring on the snow for I know right where my snow shovel hangs.
PS I am back in school full time and miss you all.
