Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Deflect the Wrecking Ball

This week’s assignment is to make a plan to deflect a “wrecking ball” that tends to interfere with your good habits and routines when you see it starting to swing your way:

  • If you haven’t already taken last week’s survey, write down your favorite answer to this question: “What external factor (condition, circumstance, situation, etc.) or internal condition (mood, emotional state, health concern, etc.) tends to disrupt your productive habits and routines or your motivation to declutter and organize?” Your answer to this question is what we call your “wrecking ball.”
  • Reflect on how the wrecking ball affects your ability to find the energy and motivation to make progress on decluttering or organizing tasks and projects.
  • Make a plan for how you might reduce the wrecking ball’s effect. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
    • Write an affirmation that you can repeat to remind yourself of the benefits you’re achieving through your decluttering and organizing efforts.
    • Plan time to work on a creative project or hobby that can provide relief while your energy and motivation levels are low.
    • Make a playlist of favorite music, podcast episodes, or other entertainment to distract you and lift your mood when you’re struggling to make progress.
    • Write a list of self-care rituals to have at the ready. Nurture your own body and spirit with meditation, exercise, prayer, gardening, or any other practice that helps you recharge.
  • Keep your deflection plan accessible, and review it at least every couple of weeks so that you’re ready to activate it whenever it’s needed.
