The Clutter Fairy Weekly #97

Make Room for the Life You Love: Setting Organizing Goals for 2022

November 30, 2021/2 Comments/in Media appearances, Podcasts, The Clutter Fairy Weekly, YouTube videos /by Todd Mahloch

Stuff becomes clutter when it stands in the way of our vision for what we want and need in our homes: relationships, fulfillment, comfort, peace of mind, and so on. In episode #97 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, explains how to turn clutter obstacles into the starting points and motivation for setting concrete goals and planning new organizing projects.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Practice Makes Progress

This week’s assignment is to practice turning your long-term vision into clear goals and actionable decluttering projects:

  • If you’ve worked through the last two Weekly Tittles, select an element of the vision for your home on which you’d like to focus.
  • If you don’t have a clear vision for your home yet, select an activity or function that you’d like to be able to do with more ease or enjoyment.
  • Make a list of obstacles or impediments that stand in the way of your achieving the element of your vision or the activity that you selected in the previous steps.
  • Choose one item from your list of obstacles to which you’ll apply your attention this week. You may pick the “low-hanging fruit,” the worst roadblock, or any other task on your list. Commit to making progress on the task this week.
  • If every obstacle on your list feels overwhelming, adjust your scope. Take one of the obstacles and break it down into smaller parts, then make a commitment to addressing one of those subtasks this week.

For the full discussion of this week’s tittle, watch the Weekly Tittle segment on YouTube.
