The Clutter Fairy Weekly #218

Clutter vs. Productivity: Organize to Optimize Your Daily Routine 2

July 6, 2024/0 Comments/in Media appearances, Podcasts, The Clutter Fairy Weekly, YouTube videos /by Todd Mahloch

Living the lives we dream of starts with making the most of every day. But cluttered spaces and unproductive habits can waste valuable time, sap our strength and stamina, and keep us from making each day count toward our long-term goals. In episode #218 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, continues our discussion about ways to streamline our homes and lives with healthy, effective habits and routines.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Clear a Roadblock

This week’s assignment is to turn your attention and focus on the weakest part of your regular routine:

  • If you haven’t already done so while taking our last survey, answer the following question: “What are the trouble spots in your regular routine? In other words, where do you find productive habits and routines breaking down on a regular basis?”
  • Make a list of factors that contribute to or detract from your ability to carry out your desired routine, such as the condition of your home, the other members of your household, time limits or constraints, physical limitations such as chronic pain or illness, resources, etc.
  • Identify your “roadblock”—the one factor that most interferes with the effectiveness of your daily or weekly routine.
  • Reflect on a change you could make to remove or mitigate your roadblock, then consider these questions:
    • What new habit might you cultivate?
    • What task or responsibility could you consider removing from your routine altogether?
    • What small change in your schedule or calendar could you make to smooth out the roadblock?
    • What additional resources would help you make the change you desire?
    • Whom could you enlist to help and support the change you’d like to make?
  • Based on your answers to the questions above, make a tentative plan to implement one change that might help clear your roadblock.
  • Put your plan into action, then live with the results for a few weeks. Come back and tell us how it went!
