The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.
Break the Logjam
We spent this week working through our backlog of survey responses, and it felt great! This week’s assignment is to work your way through one of your own clutter logjams:
- Identify one item or small collection of clutter that’s been getting on your nerves, such as an unfinished project, a purchase that needs to be put away or returned to the store, a handful of mail, or a bag of donations that you keep tripping over.
- Reflect on why this item or collection remains on your to-do list. Ask yourself:
- What are the obstacles to finishing?
- Is anything required to complete the task that you don’t have?
- How much time will it take?
- Do you need help?
- Write down the next few steps you’d need to accomplish to clear this backlog.
- You may find that having come this far, you’re ready to finish processing the item or collection in question. If so, that’s great—handle it! If not, schedule an appointment with yourself this week to handle the first step on your list.
- Keep the appointment, then set a date to take the next step. Repeat this step until you’ve cleared the logjam in question.

Yey I finally got to do a tiddle.
Logjam cleared – makeup: It annoyed me every day that there was too much stuff on the bathroom counter. I made room in the bathroom cabinets by throwing out an entire plastic bag full of makeup! Some were really expensive – which made me hang on to them even though I have not used them in YEARS! My counter is now only for ‘everyday’ simple makeup, and a small selection of ‘fancy makeup’ is in a small box in the bathroom cupboard. I can’t believe I moved house twice with all that makeup.
