Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Stop, Look, and Listen

This week’s assignment is to spend a few moments listening to what some of your clutter is trying to tell you:

  • Collect three items that you’d identify as clutter based on where they’re located in your home right now.
  • Ask yourself a few questions about each item:
    • How or why did this item end up where it is? Did it happen by default (you set it down and never picked it up again), by design (you were using it there, then never put it away), or by some other means (e.g., another household member)?
    • Does this item have an assigned home? Is that place still appropriate? If yes, put the item away. If the place doesn’t have a home, or if its current storage spot doesn’t seem quite right, consider assigning a storage location or solution that works better.
    • What are your habits connected to use of this or similar items? What habit could you cultivate to keep this item or type of clutter from coming back?

For the full discussion of this week’s tittle, watch the Weekly Tittle segment on YouTube.

This Tittle gave me new avenue of habit now as I limit myself to 2 items that are positioned on my 1 item placed by permeant default = my childhood 1000lb 110 year old piano…As I am cultivating music and beauty back into my home I now sit and play as I look at the treasures I’ve placed on top of piano…listening to what they mean to me and where they are to go. Simplified some are donated, others I stop, look and re LISTEN to my chatter…as I then find the right storage or create an assigned solution of ease in placement and for on going use. Thank you again Gayle and Ed.
