The Clutter Fairy Weekly #252

Work with a Professional Organizer…or Organize Like You’re a Pro

Working with a professional organizer can help you take the fast lane to functional, clutter-free spaces. But even if you can’t hire an organizer, you can handle your decluttering and organizing projects with a professional’s care, creativity, and attention to detail. In episode #252 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, discusses the process of working with a professional organizer and how you can apply a professional approach to managing your own projects.

Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Assess Yourself

This week’s assignment is to take the initial step of hiring yourself to work as your own professional organizer—conducting an assessment. Answer the following questions about either your entire home organizing project or a single subproject or aspect of the job:

  • What would you like to accomplish?
  • What is the timeline? Is there a deadline?
  • Who else lives in the space, and are they participating in the project?
  • How do you feel about the project?
  • What aspects of the project are you struggling with?
  • What have been your obstacles so far?
  • What are your first—or next—priorities to work on?
  • What times of the week or weekend are you willing to schedule appointments to work on the project?
