Survey #296—Full Response from Yvonne

April 11, 2026

PronounsShe/her
Describe a paradox, conundrum, or mental trap in which you find yourself as you work to declutter and organize your space. My conundrum is the thought “ what if I need it someday”. I try to remind myself that for most things, I won’t need them again, but if I do the thought of having to re-buy something at today’s prices makes me cringe .
What’s the most reliable method for getting unstuck when you find yourself trapped in a clutter conundrum? For me it’s asking myself “do you really want to manage this just for the sake of a potential someday scenario”?
Future topics

I can declutter easily enough, but I find that I’m always in a cycle of buying new because there are always items that seem like they will be better able to serve my current lifestyle. I’m also way too hooked on the dopamine rush of getting new items. Decluttering / downsizing doesn’t stick if you are constantly buying new . How about a discussion of ways to beat the dopamine rush and how to get back to being satisfied with what we already have .
