Survey #276—Full Response from Peggy
| What useful decluttering or organizing strategies or methods did you take away from the book? | I did not yet read the book |
|---|---|
| Kolberg and Nadeau base most of their “ADD-friendly organizing strategies” on the idea that people with ADHD can reframe their neurodivergent traits as strengths, working with their ADHD to take charge of life. | I don't know what strategies they presented. My ADHD person has learned some strategies from me working with them several times. I have been there as support only at times and "working" to actively declutter at other times. I have continuously offered my help. |
| Throughout the book, Kolberg and Nadeau suggest a three-pronged approach to applying their organizing strategies: You may do the work yourself; enlist the help of nonprofessionals, such as family and friends; and/or employ the services of professionals, such as professional organizers, ADHD coaches, and counselors. | What has been helping me in my own decluttering or cleaning is doing a small step then walking away to do something else. When I come back, there has already been this small progress. I do another small step or more if I feel up to it. In this way, I have been able to complete many challenging projects. |
| Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. | How do you stay patient when working with those who are slow to part with anything? |
| Future topics | Are many of us naturally doing "capsule wardrobes"? I know that I keep reaching for the same 4 or 5 items over and over again for a while. Then I will switch it up and be using another small selection of clothes. This is unintentional on my part. |
