Survey #249—Full Response from Ginger

March 14, 2025

Please share your suggestions for unconventional places to take donated items (for example, a local florist’s shop for empty flower vases). If you mention a specific business or organization, please include your city, state, province, region, and/or country in your answer.▪️PERSONAL CARE (lotions, shampoos, soap, etc.) I found “Blessing Boxes” in our area where I can drop these items.
▪️EMPTY PILL BOTTLES. I’ve saved them because I just couldn’t stand the thought of trashing them. I FINALLY discovered a ministry that accepts them. MATTHEW 25: MINISTRIES. (m25m.org) has a pill bottle program. I’ll be prepping mine to ship off to them.
▪️CLOTHES HANGERS. Nursing and memory care facilities. They are always running out of hangers. I’d often find my father’s slacks & shirts folded in a drawer because they were out of hangers. They were always happy to get my hangers.
▪️MAGAZINES. Post for free in your community Facebook group. Junk journals and glue books are a big crafting trend. People get excited to find free magazines for the images and words.
▪️DRIVEWAY GIFT-A-WAY. I watch a YouTube channel (Melinda Plain & Simple). She puts items in boxes on her driveway with a box of bags. A sign that says “FREE”. She sets it out all day. Brings it in at night. And repeats until it’s gone or mostly gone. If you lived on a high traffic street - this could work for you.
▪️SUGGESTION: Post a message in your local community Facebook group and ask for their favorite place to donate specific items. That’s how I learned about the Blessing Boxes and a nice second hand shop who hires a lot of people with disabilities.
Describe an activity or interest for which you acquire far more supplies or materials than you tend to use over a reasonable period of time.I mostly quit doing this - since we began planning purchases a few years ago. That’s curtailed impulse shopping. ▪️Craft supplies would be my weakness. But, I try to buy only what I’m using in a current project. ▪️In all of 2024 - I only bought 3 crafting items: set of coffee-themed washi tape & 2 pkgs of stickers. ▪️This year - I bought a package of mini paper clips & bulb pins. I am using these supplies.
