If you shop in thrift stores, resale shops, charity stores, pawn shops, or other sources of second-hand goods, what kinds of things do you look for? Are there any categories of items that you would ONLY buy used? Any categories of items that you would NEVER buy used?I look for name brand clothing that I could not affort to buy new, such as Chico's or Coldwater Creek. I look for like-new pieces that were likely gifted to someone and turned out to be the wrong size or color for them.
If you’ve ever completed a major decluttering project, have you experienced re-cluttering anxiety afterwards? Please describe your experience and how you’ve tried to manage this feeling. After decluttering quilting materials after deciding I didn't want to pursue sewing, I started accumulating drawing materials to try out this new activity. I'm trying to keep the inventory down and not save every inspirational item (e.g. tissue boxes or envelopes with interesting patterns on them).
How often do you deep-clean your kitchen, going above and beyond whatever daily or several-time-a-week routines you maintain? At least once a year
What routines or habits have been useful to ensure that your kitchen is always clean?I don't stock up on items. I learned to buy only what is needed for planned recipes and to have a few staples on hand. I remind myself that I don't live in the outback and am able to get to a grocery story; I don't have to maintain a large stock.
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. My children have homes of their own and don't/ won't need any of my belongings when I pass away. I'm in fairly good shape as far as decluttering is concerned, but still feel sad thinking that everything I worked for my whole life (furniture/material goods) are going to be dumped someday. I now think that maybe I shouldn't have worked so hard to earn my furniture and would have been better off with cheaper items and more money to travel. What do your clients tell you?
Future topics

I enjoy hearing ideas regarding how others declutter and organize, including questions/algorithms used to make decisions. These are helpful to me when thinking about my projects.
