Survey #219 Response from CJ Jade

July 8, 2024

PronounsShe/her
Describe an object, collection, or category of items that you’re keeping even though its value, desirability, and/or usefulness to you has significantly diminished over time.Books. I’ve donated a lot, but a lot more remain. Keep thinking the French and Arabic language learning books will be useful, but no relatives are interested- and I’m a bit over trying to learn these languages. The birs of what I have learnt so far should suffice (though I forget over time). Donated most of these, but some remain.
Explain your reason or rationale for keeping the thing(s) you described in your answer to the previous question. Some feeling that they are useful but will be difficult to obtain later on, and some fear that the internet will be gone or ebooks or e-learning will no longer be available in the country I am at. It’s an irrational fear, and with globalization, surely there will be A Person to learn the language from- should I even need to.., which it seems I haven’t, really. Thinkibv relatives would be interested when they grow up, but skme are in their teens and I think that’s old enough to know general interests.
What’s your favorite thing about summer? And what could you do this week to make more room in your life or your home for your summer fun?I’m inviting people over more!! I feel like the house has gotten to a place where I feel much more comfortable doing this. The doom room turned into a guest room that turns back into an art studio when the spare bed is folded up. An “art studio” allows me to work on projects, and use up my art supplies. Phew! With so much paper and junk ourt- I feel I can finally see some progress. Also, an art studio doesn’t need to be completely perfect- and this makes it actually easier to plow through remaining clutter and supplies. Phew! Thank you for being on my journey and being the distant strength and company aiding this!!
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode.Just a comment on my response last week: after responding, I realized that I am not completely a morning person, but that actually makes some cleaning easier. I do the mindless tasks like remaining dishes, laundry, light cleaning, removing garbage from the rest if the house, bringing cups back into the kitchen etc- in this half asleep mode which makes me not even realize I am cleaning- and then save the decision-making decluttering for the latter part of the day. Although, I must say, there was a week a few years ago- when I was sick and had congestion and could inly really make yes/ no decisions… I got so bored of staying at home that I decluttered papers- and did not have the energy to overthink anything. It was actually the perfect gift in disguise at the time. Different frames of mind can allow for different cleaning.
Future topics

Mari Kondo’s joy at work I think may be about paper clutter- though I am not sure. Carla’s declutteribg with friends is a great youtube series. I don’t think you need to be on youtube. Thx.
