Survey #207 Response from Sandra

PronounsShe/her
Which of the following statements best describes your living situation?I’m an “empty nester” whose child/children have taken all or most of their belongings with them.
Please complete one or both of the following statements:
  • “It was hard for me to let go of my children’s stuff because…”
  • “I was eager to get rid of my children’s stuff so that I would be able to…”
Hard because technically I still have my old bedroom at my parents' house (some 35 years after I left) and so do my 2 sisters. It's difficult to break with a generational habit! I say technically because the rooms were redecorated but they're still bedrooms and they are still linked to our names.
What environmental or social issues most concern you with respect to your efforts to declutter, organize, and maintain your home?I am now more comfortable buying a more expensive piece of clothing because I know it will last vs. fast fashion items. We also all make an effort in our extended family to recycle used textile items, something that did not exist even a few years ago.
What outdoor activity or activities tend to take time away from your indoor chores in the warmer months?Sitting outside to enjoy longer evenings with a glass of wine! The dishes do not get done as diligently...
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s).Strangest things Gayle found in clients' house.
Future topics

Can you share clever ideas for displaying treasured memories? Shadow boxes are one but they hold only so much. It's true for most people that we store sentimental items in boxes that we rarely open afterwards.
