For the category of stuff you find hardest to declutter or organize, please tell us about how or why this type of stuff trips you up.Papers and e-mails come in faster than I have the time to deal with them. Most end up being tossed, but I feel 'I need to read them first in case there is something interesting'.
What’s your favorite thing to listen to while decluttering? When I am decluttering, I need to think about what I am doing or else I get distracted - not that my own thoughts don't often distract.
Name one or more of your favorite Clutter Fairy-isms (e.g., “thin the herd”) or decluttering and organizing mnemonic devices (e.g., OHIO—Only Handle It Once).I may have submitted this before but since you are on -isms thought it might be worth repeating - with some slight additions. Dealing with the clutter saps up valuable time that could be used for better purposes. I have come up with several phrases I say to myself to keep me moving forward. I call it CATCHY PHRASE CLEANING - some of the phrases are: • See it - Do it (How many times am I going to walk past something I see needs to get done and not do it only to have to look at it again, especially if it only takes a few minutes to accomplish?) • Do the Dread (This is the most helpful phrase of all because by not doing the thing that I am dreading to do, it is always looming over me, taking up valuable real estate in my mind and not allowing me to fully focus on other things. And when it is done it is like a big weight has been lifted. And usually, it ends up not being as dreadful as I thought.) • Focus For Fifteen (Mainly for decluttering, don't think about anything else but the task at hand. This is the hardest for me because my mind wants to think of the next thing to do or the things that need doing that I am not doing at the moment.) • Buggers Be Gone (Take care of the things that really really really bug me. Would you let a fly keep buzzing around your head? No! You'd swat it.) • ‘til Done (Find something that needs doing and work on it until it is totally done even if it is just a small defined portion of a big project. This is the most rewarding because it gives me a sense of accomplishment.) • Get going on the Ongoing (There is always the same old same old that needs to be done so I might as well rev up the engine and go around the next lap.) • Take a bite out of the Elephant in the room (A bite a day makes the elephant go away!) • Declutter - Don’t Flutter/Mutter/Sputter • Nip the Nagger (If something starts to nag me to get done then nip it in the bud and just do it) • Top Priority has Seniority (I suppose this should be at the top of the list and not here.) • Better is Better (If you can't find the time to make it perfect at least make it better.)
