Please select the statement that best describes your future plans with regard to moving:I plan to move within the next year or two.
Describe any thoughts and feelings that the idea of moving invokes for you, or any positive or negative connotations that moving carries. (This might include memories of past moves, plans for future moves, or your experience with someone else’s move that was significant for you.)I am a bit overwhelmed at the thought of moving. I'm not young and have some physical disabilities. My sons will probably move me (about 30 miles), but they are not terribly patient with my wish/need to do everything in an planned order. If I had the ability, I would rather pay double rent for one month to do the moving in stages, taking care of things as they are moved. I am having trouble deciding what order I can do things and how far ahead I can do them. This is partially driven by my disability and the remote area I live in, which limits some of my options.
Consider the present condition of your home and its contents, and then answer this question: If you had to move from your home in a short timeframe, what would the greatest challenges be?Deciding priorities. I have pared down a lot, and hope that I won't find that I've moved much I don't need or have room for. But, given my physical and energy limitations, how do I pack and move so that I can do things at a pace that I can maintain? I have also become a bit obsessive about having my things arranged in a way that works for me, yet doubt that will be attainable during a move without a lot of extra work at some point. I see some ways that I might be able to make that work better, but they would cost more money, which worries me as well as my only income is S.S.
If money, logistics, work, citizenship, travel time, etc., were no obstacle, where would your ideal place to live be? (For example: Ed would like to live in a penthouse in the heart of Rome with a place in the Alban Hills where he’d go on the weekend. He can dream, can’t he?)Though I've often dreamed of travel (I would love to spend a few months in Ireland), and strongly dislike Michigan winters, the most important thing to me is family. So, if I had all the money in the world, I'd buy acreage and build a family compound where all my kids and grandkids could have the kind of home (and shop buildings) they wanted and it would be easy to visit, though perhaps not close enough to see everything the others were doing for the sake of privacy. Right now, my family is anywhere from 15-100 miles from me in at least three completely different directions. Maybe a winter vacation place in Hawaii?
Here’s your chance to ask Gayle and Ed any question you’re curious about. It need not be related to this survey’s topic(s). If we think that your question—and our answer—might be useful or instructive to The Clutter Fairy Weekly audience, we’ll share them in an upcoming episode. The plan is for me to move around the end of the year into an apartment my sons are making for me in one of their homes. That means that I will still be here for 4 different seasons. I will also be having major surgery during that time. I'm already trying to use up food stock and finish projects so that the pieces are not loose. I don't really want to live in a stripped-down version of my home for eight months. What is a reasonable time to plan for and start packing? I recently got rid of extra furniture and large items and am constantly looking for items to get rid of. What else?
Future topics

I will be moving from an apartment of just under 800 square feet to one of approximately equal square footage, but mine now is in 6 distinct areas/rooms. My new one will be a bedroom, bath, and an open-concept living area. I have no idea how to organize, plan, or set up for this change. Any suggestions?
