Weekly Tittle

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.

Revisiting the No-go Zone

This week’s assignment is to take a more thorough look at your “no-go zone” with a view toward removing the obstacles that keep you from enjoying the space:

  • In the survey for this week’s show, we asked our audience, “Is there a room or space in your home that you don’t love or that you tend to avoid using—or even entering? What factors contribute to your distaste for or lack of enjoyment of this space?” Please answer this question if you haven’t already done so.
  • Reflect on the negative emotions that the room brings up for you. Jot down a few words or phrases that capture the feelings and experiences that make the space undesirable or unwelcoming.
  • Write a statement or affirmation that expresses how you would like to feel in this space. In an ideal situation, how would you use and enjoy the room?
  • Now come up with a short list of action items to help you transform your no-go zone into a “hell yeah” space.
    • What might you need to remove?
    • What would you like to add?
    • What routines would you need to shift?
    • What new habits would you like to cultivate for using and enjoying the space?
  • If you don’t have a room or space that you identify as a “no-go zone,” try applying this exercise to an area of your home that you’d like to enhance with improved functionality, a more efficient use of space, more attractive decor, or just a better “vibe.”
