The Clutter Fairy Weekly #254
Positive Psychology for Clearing Clutter from Your Home and Head
Decluttering can yield many psychological benefits, such as reduced stress and anxiety and a greater sense of calm. These gains can in turn make the work of decluttering and organizing more effective and rewarding. In episode #254 of The Clutter Fairy Weekly, Gayle Goddard, professional organizer and owner of The Clutter Fairy in Houston, Texas, suggests ways to apply principles of positive psychology to clarify and energize our decluttering efforts.

The Weekly Tittle is an exercise designed to focus your attention on a specific space, aspect, or challenge of decluttering and organizing your home. We assign a new tittle in each webcast/podcast, then check on your progress the following week.
Positivity Challenge
This week’s assignment is to apply one of the positive-psychology principles we talked about in today’s show to your own decluttering efforts:
- Reflect on ways in which clutter in your home has had a negative impact on your mental health, ability to focus, memory, decision-making, or behavior.
- Explore using one of the approaches we described in this episode to your decluttering and organizing process:
- Notice anything that changes in your experience of working on decluttering projects. Do you feel any improvement in your mood or outlook? Is the work easier or more difficult? Do you feel different in any way about the process?
The links above will direct you to the spots in the video where we talked about each of these techniques so that you can listen again to the relevant sections.
