The Clutter Fairy has helped a lot of people pack a lot of stuff. Are you packing for a move, for long-term storage offsite, for storage in your home, or to send something in the mail or by courier service? At the August meeting of the Houston Clutter Coaching Meetup Group, we’ll offer advice on best practices and warn you about pitfalls to avoid so your stuff will be in good shape when it finally comes out of the box.
In January, we introduced the idea of algorithms—sets of simple rules—for filtering our stuff to fit our spaces. That presentation generated great feedback and a lot of requests for more examples. For the next meeting of the Houston Clutter Coaching Meetup Group, we’ll suggest criteria you can apply to more types of clutter, including kids’ stuff, office supplies, reading material, and more. We’ll talk about periodically revisiting and adjusting your rules to reduce your collections even more as your organizing project gains momentum.
Negative emotions complicate and compound the difficulty we have processing clutter. Guilt, shame, fear, grief, anger, and other painful feelings reduce our ability to concentrate and make decisions, and cluttered spaces and piles of stuff can aggravate the emotional distress. For the June meeting of the Houston Clutter Coaching Meetup Group, we'll offer a few ideas to help you work around or through the negative emotions.
The Clutter Fairy’s Gayle Goddard will be a guest on the June 18, 2018, episode of Houston Life. She’ll talk about organizing hacks to make your life easier.
There’s nothing like the pressure of moving to help you throw away things you don't need! Whether you purge by choice or because you're too exhausted to keep packing, the demands of a move are guaranteed to reduce your pile of possessions. But even if you won't be moving any time soon, you can still use moving strategies to help you let go of excess in your life.
This will be our second “Clutter Conversation” online event. We’ll meet using the Zoom.us video-conferencing app, a free tool that allows us to share a conversation as streaming video and take questions from the audience. Up to 100 people can participate live, and as always, we’ll record the event to post on YouTube. About a week before the event, we’ll send a reminder notice to everyone who has RSVP’d to provide instructions for sharing your questions and comments live by video, audio, or chat.
How do we declutter the special kinds of stuff that come to us from our parents and other relatives, and how can we manage our own collections so that our children, surviving spouses, and other loved ones aren’t burdened with more than they can handle when our time comes?
